Error: Private key password verification failed

Some OpenVPN connections may have the key file protected by a password. If this is the case, Viscosity should prompt you for the password to unlock the key when you tell the connection to start connecting. If the password entered is invalid OpenVPN will display the error message "Error: private key password verification failed" in the log. Simply start connecting again to try a different password.

If Viscosity is not asking for a password when it should be, check the following:

  1. Open Viscosity's Preferences window and make sure the Connections toolbar icon is selected.
  2. Select your connection and click the Edit button.
  3. Click on the Advanced tab.
  4. If the command "askpass [file]" exists in the Advanced commands section, remove it and click the Save button.
