Recently, in version 1.11.5, I have found that my VPN connections continue to experience issues with soft resets. A workaround I have found is to delete the adapters in Device Manager, which allows them to recreate on the next connection, fixing the issue until the next time I boot up my laptop. I am back in this loop.
Some connections may require up to 6 attempts to establish a proper connection. Is this a bug, or will it be fixed in the next release?
I recommend checking the connection log, with the verbosity raised, to see if there is more information about the cause of your VPN connection dropouts:
Removing the VPN adapters so Viscosity re-creates them likely points to third-party endpoint security software attaching to the VPN adapter and causing issues.
Thanks for the link. I will check the status of the logs tomorrow as it only happens when I first login cause after I delete the adapter in Device Manager it works for the day without issue.
It seemed like 1.12b10 (1853) had fixed this issue but it came back today. I have a script that removes the Viscosity adapters and then they connect fine. Logs showed nothing.
I recommend running through the steps listed in the following forum post (assuming you’re seeing the same type of “CreateFile failed on TAP device via management” error in your connection log):
Just as an update here - the issue was Malwarebytes causing this problem. I have since removed it from my laptop and don’t have this issue any more, and Viscosity runs like a charm.
If you do let me know and I can always install it again to test.
