I have upgraded to a Mac with an M1 processor (ARM) and I also upgraded to latest MacOS 12.1
I don't use Viscosity that often - so not sure when this problem started. However, when I start Viscosity "nothing happens"... If I check the activity monitor I can see the process started - but no window is shown and no icon is shown at the top for me to open Viscosity.
How can I troubleshoot this further - and is there a well-known issue with either the M1 processor or Monterey?
Thanks in advance!

Hi John,
Viscosity 1.10.1 fully supports macOS 12 and Apple Silicon Macs. I recommend running through the steps at:
https://www.sparklabs.com/support/kb/ar ... -not-start
If you are using a MacBook with a "notch" in the screen, please also ensure that the Viscosity icon isn't appearing behind the notch. If you have a lot of menu icons Viscosity's icon may get pushed to the left until the point where it's hidden by the notch (this applies to all menu icons). Try temporarily removing some so there is space.
Cheers,
James

James, you're right.... it is hidden behind the notch.
I thought I saw somewhere that Apple had released a fix to ensure that icons didn't get hidden behind the notch - but apparently not yet.
So I'll have to hide some other icons to make Viscosity visible when I need to use the VPN....
Thanks!

Hi John,
Glad to hear you found the source of the problem.
As a tip, you can re-arrange menu icons by holding down the Command key on your keyboard, and clicking and dragging the menu icons to the right or left. This allows you to move Viscosity's icon further right so it isn't the one that gets cut off.
However sadly if you have a lot of icons something else will get cut off in its place (at least until Apple change the behaviour of menu icons and the notch).
Cheers,
James

Thanks for this advice. It would be super helpful if there was a dock icon for Viscosity which we could use as an alternative to the menu icon (similar to how iStat works). I checked high and low but don't see a pref for this in the software. Any chance it could be added in the future?

Hi guest22,
Thanks for the feedback. We've been looking into whether it's possible to detect whether Viscosity's icon is getting hidden by the notch, and having Viscosity react in some way, but I'm afraid we don't have anything available yet.
