I'm on the 3rd version of viscosity now, and all 3 crash soon after hitting connect. It appears to be trying to connect, but after it says "creating" briefly, the standard Windows error box pops up and Viscosity closes. Please help.

I am using Windows XP with service pack 3.

Hi triple___b,

Thanks for reporting the crash to us. Are you allowing Viscosity to run the adapter installer with Administrator rights? (You should be receiving a popup box asking for credentials if you run on a standard users account).

Are you able to see any extra information in the Event Viewer? If you could send it along it would help a great deal to find the problem - http://www.sparklabs.com/support/viswin_event_viewer/

Thanks for the help, here are my event viewer errors:

Application: Viscosity.exe
Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.
Exception Info: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception
Stack:
at System.Diagnostics.Process.StartWithCreateProcess(System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo)
at System.Diagnostics.Process.Start()
at  .(System.String)
at  .(System.String)
at  .()
at System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart_Context(System.Object)
at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(System.Threading.ExecutionContext, System.Threading.ContextCallback, System.Object, Boolean)
at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(System.Threading.ExecutionContext, System.Threading.ContextCallback, System.Object)
at System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart()

And the next error:

Faulting application viscosity.exe, version 1.4.6.1204, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5512, fault address 0x00012aeb.

How do I know if I am in administrator mode? Thanks again for the help.

Hi triple__b,

If the computer is your own personal PC, you should be an Administrator, if it is a work or company PC, you most likely won't be.

Thank you for posting up those logs.

Are you being asked to enter any credentials before this crash occurs? Can you please try editing the connection you are trying to connect to and go to the Advanced tab. If a line that starts with 'dev-node' appears, please delete that line, then Save the connection. Even if you do not change anything, save the connection anyway. This should force Viscosity to create an adapter for the connection.

We will start investigating what could be causing this issue. Have you tried any older version of Viscosity or just the latest? (Version 1.4.6 is the latest)

Eric

Yes, this is my personal computer.

I am not being asked to enter any credentials before the crash.

There wasn't a line that started with that, but I saved the connection. When I saved it, the connection started to connect but then the program crashed and closed again.

Yes, I tried version 1.0.0, 1.4.5, and now 1.4.6

Let me know, thanks again.

Hi triple__b,

To aid in our troubleshooting, can you please do the following:

Go to Start->Run
Type cmd and press Enter
Type - cd "C:\Program Files\Viscosity\Resources"
Type - openvpn.exe --version

If you could let us know the output or if any errors pop up we would be extremely grateful!

I tried that and it says "The system cannot execute the specified program" after I typed "openvpn.exe --version."

Hi triple__b,

Please ignore my last message, we've managed to replicate the issue and Windows is indeed being very unhelpful with it's error message. We should have a beta available here shortly to correct the issue - http://www.sparklabs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=482

Thank you for your assistance with this problem!
