Viscosity quickly changes to disconnected
Got a problem with Viscosity or need help? Ask here!
Long time Viscosity user on my Mac, just bought the Windows client for a Windows VM that I run on a Linux server.
I imported my VPN connections and tried to connect in the normal way. According to the log, it got as far as "Connection is reachable, Starting connection attempt" and then it displayed
The OpenVPN subsystem could not be started and check the following.....blah blah blah
I have confirmed that ViscosityService is running and the imported VPN connections are the same ones I use with Viscosity on my Mac.
Any idea why it's not working?
Thanks

Hi dhjdhj,
Could you please ensure you are running the latest version of Viscosity (1.6.1) and try to connect again. After this, could you please post a complete copy of the connection log.
Regards,
Eric

Hi dhjdhj,
Are there any events in the Event Viewer at the time of the connection. They don't necessarily have to relate to Viscosity - http://sparklabs.com/support/kb/article ... nt-viewer/
Regards,
Eric

Absolutely none. To be sure, I ran a batch script that deleted every single event in every single log that the Event Viewer knows about. Then I tried to connect again and afterwards checked the event viewer. Other than an event telling me that the logs had just been cleared, there was nothing
Hi dhjdhj,
A lack of errors means OpenVPN is not crashing, there is either a dependency missing on the system or something is blocking it. Do you run any Anti Virus or Firewall software? Is Windows up to date? Are you able to boot the VM into Safe Mode and try from there?

Eric

Nope --- Windows Firewall is turned off completely
Do you run any Anti Virus or Firewall software?
Yep - Windows 7 with latest available updates
Is Windows up to date?
Yes can boot to Safe Mode (with networking) - Viscosity still won't connect

Hi dhjdhj,
We really have nothing to go off. No errors, no crashes, no potential walls preventing OpenVPN from starting.
Could you please send us a copy of your configuration as exported from Viscosity. We only need the config.conf. You may wish to email to this to keep this off a public forum if you wish - https://www.sparklabs.com/support/#contact
Could you also please send us a System Information summary. Again you may wish to email this to us to keep it off a public forum. To get this, go to Start -> Run (Or Windows Key + R), type in msinfo32 and press enter. In the System Information Window, go to File -> Save, save the file and then attach the NFO to a post or email. This output will be multiple megabytes, so you may wish to compress it before sending (Right click the File -> Send To -> Compressed (Zipped).
