Can I use Viscosity instead of Cisco VPN Client?

I've been using Viscosity for a few months now and love it, however now I find myself needing to connect to a VPN that uses Cisco and all I have available to me is a .pcf file. I really hate the Cisco client. How can I configure Viscosity to work for this situation? Or is it even possible?

I'm afraid not. Viscosity only supports the OpenVPN protocol. The Cisco VPN client uses a proprietary IPSEC implementation which Viscosity cannot connect to.

It's probable Viscosity may add support for additional protocols in the future. In the meantime you may like look at something like TinyGUI4CV. I've personally never tried it, but it looks to be more useable than the official Cisco VPN client.

Cheers
James

Thanks for your response. I'm disappointed that I can't use Viscosity, but I'll keep watching for updates in the future -- just incase :) Viscosity is a nice little app!

I'm also disappointed that Viscosity doesn't support the Cisco protocol. I'd buy it in a flash.

What about the Cisco SSL VPN that's offered in the Cisco ASA 5510 device? WIll Viscosity connect to that?

Hi Troy,

I'm afraid not, the OpenVPN protocol and Cisco's SSL solution are quite different from a technical perspective.

Cheers,
James

Another reason why I don't like "closed box" systems, why not use the open standard and work to improve it for everyone. :x
