Hi

Will Mac Viscosity users see a build with OpenVPN 2.4 soon? There are some nice enhancements there.

Hi luckman212,

OpenVPN 2.4 support will be added to Viscosity once we’ve completed an internal security review of the feature additions and source changes. I’m afraid we don’t have an ETA available, but it shouldn’t be all that far away.

Cheers,
James

Awesome! I'm pretty stoked for OpenVPN 2.4's support for '--redirect-gateway ipv6'.

Hi All,

Just to keep everyone in the loop, we haven't released a beta version yet, however we expect to have a beta available next week. We know that many are keen to get their hands on a release with 2.4 support, so we're looking at posting an alpha build here on the forum in the next couple of days. Alpha builds are essentially developer-level builds that have had minimal testing.

For those wondering about the hold up: it has nothing to do with 2.4 support, but rather the big changes we've been working on for the next update (version 1.7). We've rewritten huge sections of Viscosity (probably around 70% of the code base) to significantly increase its performance and remove its dependancy on Python. However many parts still need testing, bug fixes, and polishing, all of which is very proving to be more time consuming than expected.

We appreciate everyone's patience!

Thanks,
James

Hi All,

An alpha version with basic 2.4 support can be found below. Alpha builds are in-development versions of Viscosity and contain experimental code and untested functionality, and so please backup your connections before attempting to use any alpha builds.

Please note that these builds still have a long list of known problems and incomplete functionality, and it's possible they may not even run for you. Because of this we're not seeking bug reports at this stage. We'll be updating the alpha build posted below on a daily basis until it reaches beta status, so re-check this post to see if a newer version is available if you encounter any problems (alpha releases will not automatically update).

[Edit] Beta versions of Viscosity 1.7 are now available via automatic update:

Last night, I backed up Viscosity 1.6.8 and the existing connection files. I installed 1.7a1 (1373), but there was no UI after launch of the app (I verified that Viscosity was still running in the background). I reverted to 1.6.8, and all is good. I will try again as you 2.4 alpha (or beta) builds become available.

Configuration: MacBook Pro, macOS Sierra 10.12.3.
